SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A 24-year-old Salem man who killed his girlfriend’s 4-year-old boy for spilling beer has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Gerardo Chavarria admitted in Marion County Circuit Court that he hit the boy’s head against the floor in November 2011 in anger over the boy spilling Chavarria’s beer.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say the driver of a car is dead and a 10-year-old girl in his car has serious injuries after a collision last night on Highway 18 just east of McMinnville. Troopers say the car crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a truck pulling two trailers. The 30-year-old car driver died at the scene. The girl was taken to Willamette Valley Medical Center.

CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – Patricia Holloway has been kicked off the Clackamas River Water board by 94 percent of the vote in yesterday’s recall election. The Oregonian reports her seven-year tenure was marked by litigation and infighting that prompted the district’s insurance provider to cancel liability coverage. The district spent about $1 million over four years in legal fees. Holloway said she was fighting to expose corruption and protect ratepayers.

LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) – Police in La Grande say a semi-automatic rifle stolen from a locked Oregon State Police trooper’s patrol car has been recovered in a local home. A 16-year-old boy was arrested. The La Grande Observer reports that a relative of the teen called police last weekend to report finding a rifle part in a bedroom. Police then found the rest of the rifle and evidence associated with the vehicle break-in. A window was smashed in the patrol car sometime between Feb. 28 and March 1.
