PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland basketball coach who was accused of beating a 13-year-old boy with a belt has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison after agreeing to a plea deal. Leslie Lewis had been charged with kidnapping and assault after his arrest last September. KOIN reports Lewis pleaded guilty to criminal mistreatment and coercion. Lewis coached a league not associated with the city or school district.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man who had been charged with aggravated murder has been sentenced in Portland to 18 years in prison after a plea deal. Charles Joseph Lake pleaded guilty last week to manslaughter in the stabbing death last March of a 64-year-old Charles Keith Morton in his apartment. The Oregonian reports prosecutors believed Lake stabbed Morton to steal his wallet and watch. But the 21-year-old says they fought after Morton kissed him on the back of the neck. Both men had been drinking.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 54-year-old Pendleton man who fell asleep at the wheel and crashed on the Umatilla Indian Reservation killing his estranged wife has been given a 21-month prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter. The U.S. attorney’s office says Roberto Medellin admitted he had been drinking the day of the crash last May and was too tired to drive. The crash killed Misty Dawn Sheoships.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A man who started a fire in the restroom of an Amtrak train stopped in Eugene was sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to get drug and mental health treatment. Nathan Tillis pleaded guilty yesterday to arson as part of a plea agreement. The Register-Guard reports he also was ordered to pay $2,500 to cover the damage.
