College Basketball

The Oregon men ran the table in Las Vegas and collected an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Pac-12 basketball Tournament.  The Ducks downed Utah 64 – 45 Friday night in a semi-final; then beat the UCLA Bruins 78 – 69 Saturday.  Oregon is the number 12 seed in the Midwest bracket… they’ll take on number 5 seed and 14th ranked Oklahoma State Thursday evening in San Jose.

On the college diamond… Number three Oregon State swept Arizona for the first time ever to go 3-and-oh in the Pac-12.  The Beavers wrapped up the weekend with an 8-4 win in Tucson yesterday after winning the first two games 6-2 and 4-3.  They’ll host Arizona State this weekend.

College Baseball

Number 16 Oregon fell behind early yesterday in Los Angeles, ultimately losing 5-3 to USC.  But it was their first loss of the Pac-12 season.  The Ducks opened with a 5-2 win Friday, then came from behind Saturday for an 8-4 victory.   Arizona will be at PK Park this weekend against the Ducks.

Prep Sports

On the prep diamond… Siuslaw shut out the Marshfield Pirates 10-nothing at home Friday for the first win of the season.  The Vikings are one-and-one on the season.  They’ll host Cottage Grove Tuesday.

Viking Softball gave up a dozen hits to the Pirates in Coos Bay, losing to Marshfield 13-nothing.  Ashlee Cole was two-for-two at the plate for Siuslaw with a single and a double.  The Lady Viks will take on the Cubs in Newport tomorrow.
