PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Relatives of a 16-year-old Beaverton girl who was fatally shot near the Oregon coast say they are still trying to understand the tragedy. Kayla Hendrickson’s body was found late Friday along Highway 6 east of Tillamook. Oregon State Police say the suspected shooter -24-year-old Jacob Green – killed himself the following day in Northern California. A family statement yesterday described the teen as a beautiful, free-spirited country girl who could be counted on to make you laugh or smile. The girl’s former stepfather told The Oregonian that she and Green were in a relationship.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A sheriff’s spokesman says a 20-year-old Oregon man accused of putting his grandmother’s small dog in a hot oven after it nipped him has been arraigned on a charge of aggravated animal abuse. Kevin Dean Parrish appeared in court yesterday. It was not immediately known whether he had a lawyer. He was jailed on $10,000 bail after his arrest on Monday. The Chihuahua-pincher mix was cut and bruised, his hair was singed and three legs were burned but he’s expected to pull through.
SEATTLE (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a 43-year-old Shoreline, Wash., man has been sentenced in Seattle to 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of a 22-year-old woman for purposes of prostitution. Joseph McDaniels was sentenced yesterday. He pleaded guilty last fall. The indictment alleged that McDaniels compelled the woman to engage in commercial sex acts through force, fraud and coercion, transporting her between Washington and Oregon. He was arrested last May in Portland.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 13-year-old runaway they believe is endangered. Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson says Raemi Pearl Carter has been in contact with friends since leaving home Dec. 12. But based on information learned by investigators, police now consider her an endangered runaway. Police have released a photo of Carter. Anyone who sees the young teenager or knows her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
