Local Sports – Vikings split with Bruins

Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…

The Siuslaw Vikings unleashed an onslaught of three- pointers last night and jumped to an early lead over Brookings-Harbor.  The Vikings held off the Bruins down the stretch for a 79-60 Far West Basketball win at home.  Sam Johnson pumped in four three-pointers in the first quarter alone on the way to a game-high 19 points.  Jake Thompson had 13; Ryan Smith and J.B. Dodson had a dozen apiece for the Vikings who improve to 2-and-1 in league play.  North Bend remains undefeated and alone atop the standings after downing Sutherlin 67-44.  South Umpqua slipped by Douglas 64- 50.

In Reedsport last night Gold Beach beat the Braves, 60 – 29.

On the girls’ court… Brookings-Harbor opened up a 16-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 49-25 win over the Siuslaw Vikings.  Ashlee Cole had eight points and ten rebounds for the Lady Vikings.  In Coos County, the Sutherlin Bulldogs routed the North Bend Bulldogs 56 – 18; while in Myrtle Creek the Douglas Trojans edged South Umpqua 48 – 41.

Reedsport edged Gold Beach 31-30 in overtime.

On the court tonight… the Mapleton Sailors will host the McKenzie Eagles in Mountain West Basketball… the girls tip off at 5:30, the boys immediately following.

Also on the mats tonight… a four-way Dual Far West wrestling meet originally scheduled for tomorrow at North Bend High School will be held tonight.  In addition to the host team, the Siuslaw Vikings, Brookings Bruins and Sutherlin Bulldogs will be in action.
