PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters in downtown Portland cut through a parking garage wall to rescue a woman who somehow got wedged between two buildings. Lt. Damon Simmons says they were called shortly before 4 a.m. to a report of a person trapped. He says she fell partially down a 20-foot wall and became stuck three or four feet off the ground. Firefighters cut two window-size holes on either side of the woman and used a heater to keep her warm. She was conscious and talking with rescuers.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Jackson County sheriff’s deputies say an 86-year-old Medford man whose naked body was found in his front yard died of hypothermia. A spokeswoman said yesterday there was power to Harry Henderson’s home but the thermostat was turned off and space heaters had been unplugged. Deputies reported the interior of the old home was so cold that liquid was frozen in a few bottles that were left out. As hypothermia develops, victims may experience confusion and begin removing clothing.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Canadian husband and wife injured in an eastern Oregon bus crash that killed nine of their fellow passengers have filed suit in British Columbia, accusing the tour company of operating a defective bus. The lawsuit filed on behalf of June Won Kim and his wife Hee Eun Kim also accuses the driver of speeding, failing to stop, ignoring traffic rules and knowingly driving a defective vehicle. Vancouver, B.C.-based Mi Joo Tour & Travel has been banned from operating in both Canada and the United States.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Newport has been selected as the site for what its backers call a utility-scale wave energy test site. The city on Oregon’s central coast beat out Reedsport to the south for what’s called the Pacific Marine Energy Center. Oregon State University says a site yet to be selected about five miles from shore will test devices for generating potential and environmental impacts. Plans call for four “test berths,” open spaces of water dedicated to testing individual devices or small arrays of devices.
