Pub Raising Scholarship Money

The Beachcomber Pub is holding it’s Community Scholarship Fund Raiser now through December 15th.  In the last 6 years the Beachcomber Pub has giving away 19 Scholarships with a total of $28,000 raised in that period of time.  The Scholarships have been given to both Siuslaw High School  and Mapleton students.  This years fund raiser is done in the memory of Dan Barnum who passed away in motorcycle accident this past summer.  Information and details about the fundraiser can be found at the Beachcomber Pub on Bay Street.  Their goal is to raise $7500.00.  The Beachcomber Community-Dan Barnum Scholarship is managed by the Western Lane Community Foundation.

Light Up a Life

The 22nd annual light up a life sponsored by Peace Health will be on December 9.  Kathy Murphey with Peace Health says it is a time for gathering and remberence.

“it’s for all the community to have a chance to come together to remember their loved ones, and remember folks that are important to them that have passed not just this year but that have passed in the past.”

The PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Hospice is also looking for photos of loved ones to include in a slide show for the ceremony.  A signed form is required and the deadline for submission is November 30th.  For more information or to donate you can contact the Hospice office at 541-997-3418.

The December 9th celebration will be from 2 to 3:30 pm at the Florence Event Center.

Shop Small

Tomorrow is Shop Small Saturday.  The event is planned as a reminder that small business is the backbone of our economy.  The shopping event is sponsored by the Florence area Chamber of commerce is conjunction with American Express.  Businesses throughout Florence will participate and some will provide snacks and beverages while you shop.  Small businesses in Oregon consist of over 350 thousand businesses and are responsible for 99.4% of all businesses.
