Three Beavers Named to All-District Academics; Beavers Sweep Cal; Track and Field: Wally Ciochetti Invitational

Beavers Sweep California

Friday night at Goss stadium in Corvallis, Luke Heimlich struck out 12 batters and the Beavers accumulated 13 hits in an 8-0 shut-out of the California Golden Bears.

On Saturday both teams combined for 6 home runs including a grand slam for each but the Beavers managed to score 11 runs to California’s 10.  Drew Rasmussen came in in the 7th earning the win in just 2 1/3 innings pitched.

Yesterday the Beavers earned a sweep of the bears with solid pitching from Jake Thompson.  He went 6 1/3 innings allowing two runs with plenty of offensive support with a 5 run 5th inning highlighted by a Grenier triple.  Beavers won 10-2.

 

Ducks Go 1 and 2

The Ducks got rained out on Friday and went to a double header on Saturday splitting the pair with Washington state. David Peterson getting the win in the first game 8-2, but the Ducks didn’t quite have enough for the second, keeping it close but going down 2-1.  On Sunday the ducks took an early 5 nothing lead but Washington state put together a late inning rally then pulling ahead in the bottom of the ninth to take the series with a 6-5 win.

In Viking baseball, the Brookings Harbor Bruins took both games of the Friday double header, shutting out the Vikings in the first game 10-zip, and edging the Viks 9-6 in the second.

 

Wally Ciochetti Invitational

In Track and Field Friday at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove, Destinie Tatum took 3rd in the 800 meter with a time of 2:23.83 and Celie Mans finished 4th with a personal record time of 2:25.34.  Hannah Rannow finished 4th  in the 1500 meters 5:20.50.  Anna Wartnik finished 8th at 5:26.01 for a personal best time.

 

In the boys 3000 meter Siuslaw’s Jack Pickell came in 3rd in 9:31.02.  Brendon Jenson finished 9th 9:47.58

 

In field events for the Vikings, Trent Reavis took first place in the shot put with a throw of 50’ 2” and also took 2nd in the Discus with a throw of 147’ 11”.  In the Javelin Ryan Rendon-Padilla took 4th place with a toss of 163’

 

Lady Vikings in the Shot Put Carissa Oliver took first place with a personal record toss of 41:07.50 followed by teammate Madison Reynolds with a 2nd place toss of 36.07.5

Oliver also took first in the discus with another personal record of 136-05

 

 Three Beavers Honored for Academic Achievment

The Oregon Beavers are the only division one team to name 3 players as academic all district students.  Last week it was announced that Jack Anderson, KJ Harrison and Jake Thompson were named by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America to their Academic All-District 8 Team.  But it was not just their success that is being touted.  The Beavers hold the highest cumulative team GPA among men’s teams at Oregon State.  With 25 Student-Athletes at a 3.0 or better.

The Vikings are back on the diamond this afternoon.  The Girls are at home hosting North Bend for Far West League Softball at 5 o’clock… the Vikings are on the road to North Bend to take on the Bulldogs in a game that will air over Coast Radio Sports.  Pregame is at 4:45, first pitch at 5 o’clock on KCST….
