Hooper hurdles to Athlete of the Week; Far West baseball and softball, track and field today. Oregon and Oregon state face non-league baseball opponents

Siuslaw Track and Field standout Clark Hooper is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  The senior athlete swept the hurdles events at the Junction City Invitational, winning the 110 meter hurdles in 16.3 seconds, then capturing the title in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 42.45 seconds.

Honorable mention is given to freshman thrower Ryan Rendon-Padilla who won the javelin at last week’s Far West League meet in Florence with a personal record throw of 163-feet-7-inches; a mark that matches the fifth longest throw in school history.

FWL baseball, softball and track today

The Far West League schedules begin today for Viking baseball and softball.  Game times have been advanced in an effort to beat the rain forecast for this afternoon.  Softball will be in Coos Bay against the Marshfield Pirates at three… In Florence, Viking baseball is on the diamond at Jiggs Dodson Field, also against the Marshfield Pirates… also at three.  That game will air on Coast Radio sports with the pregame show at 2:45.

Prep Track and Field today… Siuslaw will be on the Prefontaine Track at Marshfield High School this afternoon for a Far West meet.

On the college diamond…

The number one ranked Beavers will host the Gonzaga Bulldogs this evening in Corvallis for a non-league game.  Oregon will host the Portland Pilots at PK Park in Eugene.
