Helfrich out as Ducks’ coach

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon has fired Mark Helfrich after the Ducks went 4-8 this season. Helfrich led the Ducks for four seasons and says “plain and simple” that Oregon simply didn’t win enough this season. The Ducks finished the season at the bottom of the Pac 12 North.

UNDATED (AP) — Washington is ranked fourth in the latest college football playoff rankings. Alabama holds the top spot, followed by Ohio State and Clemson. Washington takes on Colorado for the Pac 12 championship on Friday night.

UNDATED (AP) — Washington quarterback Jake Browning and USC’s Adoree Jackson have been named the top offensive and defensive players of the year for the Pac 12. Browning has passed for more than 3,100 yards and a school-record 40 touchdowns for the Huskies.

UNDATED (AP) — Eastern Washington’s Gage Gubrud and Cooper Kupp both have been named finalists for the Walter Payton Award. Kupp won the award last season and could become the second player to win it twice.
