Music is one focus of Oktoberfest

If you are looking for an inexpensive day of fun in Florence, Nancy Pearson suggests the annual Oktoberfest at the Florence Events Center.

Nancy Pearson – “It’s only seven dollars and there is no additional charge for the evening events that happen.  And, we’re actually have a little ‘happy hour’ from four to six, after the wiener dog races we’re going to have some really great games.”

Pearson is the events coordinator for the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce.  She says they’ll put some other surprises out following the three o’clock Wiener Dog Races.  Then, at 5:30, the music will shift away from the more traditional and historic German sound to something you might here there today.  It’s the T-Club.

Nancy Pearson  – “They’re very well known, they sound really great and, yeah… I don’t know if you would see them in Germany per se, but they have a really great energy to them and they’re very excited to come to the Florence Events Center.”

Oktoberfest opens at 11 Saturday morning… the T-Club will play from 5:30 to eight pm.

Annexation request approved by Florence Planning Commission

The Florence Planning Commission signed off this week on a proposal to annex a strip of land along Highway 126 just east of the current Florence City Limits.

Don and Norma Saxon made the application requesting annexation of their nine tax lots in July.  There are no residents on the property, and they own all of the land in question.  One parcel contains an unfinished commercial structure on piers between the highway and the Siuslaw River Estuary.

The Planning Commission opened and closed their hearing on the matter Tuesday evening.  They recommended approval by a five-nothing vote.  It will now go to the Florence City Council for final action.

The Emerald Empire Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association is spearheading the visit.
