EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A veteran Eugene police officer accused of beating a suspect in the Lane County Jail is due to be arraigned today. The Register-Guard reports that prosecutors yesterday charged John Sharlow with misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree assault and official misconduct. He is accused of beating Arik Bumpas of Eugene on Sept. 11.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – A man making butane honey oil out of marijuana has been hospitalized and cited by police after the gas caused an explosion in his Albany garage. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports that the 37-year-old man faces three counts of reckless endangering after the Tuesday night explosion.

SCIO, Ore. (AP) – A Scio animal sanctuary is facing foreclosure if it cannot raise $300,000 by April 2017. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports that the nonprofit Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary is home to about 150 animals ranging from birds to a blind bison. Many of the animals were rescued from abusive or neglectful homes.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The head of Oregon’s economic development agency is stepping down after a little more than a year in the job. Gov. Kate Brown’s office says Sean Robbins is leaving Business Oregon in the fall. Brown’s office says Robbins is returning to Wisconsin to be closer to family.
