Viking softball falls to Panthers

Prep softball Friday afternoon… The Siuslaw Vikings put up 17 hits but committed a combined 13 errors and the Gold Beach Panthers swept both halves of a double-header over the Vikings at home, 10-1 and 18-8. Taylor Dotson was three-for-six on the day with four RBI.

On the baseball diamond, things were reversed as the Viking Nine came out on top ten-nothing and 15-nothing.

Prep Track and Field

Siuslaw’s Joseph Dotson qualified for the New Balance nationals in the prep decathlon with a score of 6034 on the way to a fourth place overall finish at the Summit Decathlon-Heptathlon in Bend over the Weekend. Dotson recorded personal bests in nine of the ten events and won the 15-hundred meter outright.

Mikaela Siegel completed in the Heptathlon finishing fifth overall with a score of 3384. Her highest finish was in the 100-meter hurdles where she was second.

College Baseball

On the college diamond, the Arizona Wildcats swept the Oregon Ducks in the desert over the weekend, winning all three games of their Pac-12 series. The ‘Cats came out on top 7-2 Friday, 9-5 Saturday and then capped the series with a 13-4 win yesterday.

In Corvallis, Cal Poly took two out of three non-conference games over the Beavers. The Mustangs came out on top Friday and Saturday 8-1 and 7-2. The Beavers took the series final 4-2.
