CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Wesley Matthews scored a season-high 28 points, and the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 105-97 last night for their ninth consecutive victory. Matthews was 10 of 15 from the field and 6 of 9 from 3-point range as Portland (12-3) improved to 7-0 against Eastern Conference teams.

NEW YORK (AP) – Kyle Wiltjer scored a career-high 32 points and No. 10 Gonzaga beat Georgia 88-76 last night in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals. Kevin Pangos added 22 points, six assists and three steals for Gonzaga (5-0). The Bulldogs will play St. John’s in the championship game tomorrow night. St. John’s beat Minnesota 70-61 in the first semifinal.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – KT Harrell scored 20 points, including two big baskets to break a tie late, and Auburn defeated Oregon State 71-69 in the consolation game at the MGM Grand Main Event. Gary Payton led Oregon State (3-2) with a season-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. Oregon State shot 50 percent, making 26 of 52 shots.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) – Tyler Harvey scored 20 points and Eastern Washington continued its torrid shooting, scorching Northern Kentucky 81-60 last night. The Eagles (5-1) showed no letdown after their historic win at Indiana on Monday, shooting 55.8 percent from the field, including a 12-of-24 showing from 3-point range. The last time EWU opened 5-1 was in 1985.
