OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Rookie Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes to make a case he should be Oakland’s starting quarterback, and the Raiders wrapped up the preseason with a 41-31 victory last night over the Seattle Seahawks. Carr was almost perfect in the start in place of Matt Schaub, completing 11 of 13 passes for 143 yards, and led Oakland (2-2) to four touchdowns in four drives.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Devon Allen has won a starter’s job at receiver for the No. 3 Ducks. Allen, a redshirt freshman, will start along with senior receiver Keanon Lowe when Oregon hosts South Dakota in the opener tomorrow night. In June, Allen won the NCAA championship in the 110-meter hurdles.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – I.K. Kim birdied the first four holes on the back nine yesterday and finished with a 7-under 65 to take the first-round lead in the Portland Classic. The South Korean player birdied seven of the first 13 holes and closed her afternoon round with five straight pars. She won the last of her three LPGA Tour titles in 2010.

NEW YORK (AP) – Portland Timbers defender Norberto Paparatto has been suspended for a game after elbowing Seattle’s Chad Marshall in the back of the head during Sunday’s game. Paparatto also was fined an undisclosed amount and will miss Portland’s game tomorrow at Vancouver. The Argentine was shown a yellow card for the collision in the 39th minute. Paparatto’s arm made contact with Marshall, who has a history of head injuries and missed 17 games due to concussions in 2007.
