PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon teenager who carved a swastika into another teen’s forehead as he and others tortured the boy has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. The 16-year-old told the victim in a quiet voice that he was sorry for his actions. Police and prosecutors say the teens spent the evening before the February attack sketching out ideas for torturing the 17-year-old victim.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon law enforcement agencies have gotten more than $10 million in military equipment through a federal program that distributes weaponry and gear. The program has gained prominence with the police killing of a teenager and unrest in Ferguson, Missouri. Law officers say the equipment matches the sort of weaponry available in the community.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a neck chain with a cross and distinctive blue stones that an Aloha man wore helped his family and friends to identify his body, which was found more than a week ago in a field in Clackamas County. The sheriff’s office said 45-year-old Misael Nunez is a homicide victim, killed by a gunshot, and it is hoping for tips from the public.
MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is extending a surcharge of 50 cents per bottle for another two years. The OLCC’s unanimous decision means the extra tax will now expire on June 30, 2017. The 50-cent tax was added to the sale of each bottle of liquor in 2009 as a way of temporarily boosting revenue during the economic downturn.
