COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Some new details have emerged in the shooting that left a Michigan man dead at an Oregon beach. Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier said gunman Zachary Brimhall fired more than 15 rounds from 100 yards away that hit the car occupied by David Hortman of Walker, Michigan. But only one bullet hit Hortman, a shot in the side that killed him as he slept early Tuesday at Bastendorff Beach.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The Port of Astoria has named an executive from Washington state as its fifth leader in less than three years. The Daily Astorian reports Jim Knight has been director of the Port of Olympia marine terminal since July 2013. Knight succeeds Hank Bynaker, who resigned after 14 months as the port’s last hired executive director. The paper reports that emotional disagreements among board members have been a factor in the succession of directors.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police say a man believed to have been homeless has died after officers responding to an assault report found him in a downtown alley. Police tell KVAL-TV that officers were sent to see about the report yesterday morning, and the man died later at the hospital.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have a beef with a man they say stole meat worth $2,700 from three Safeway stores in Portland. Police say 53-year-old Barry Sanders was caught on video hiding meat in a shopping cart at least 13 times, then leaving the grocery stores without paying. KOIN reports Sanders has not yet entered a plea.
