Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Hisashi Iwakuma struck out a season-high 11 batters in eight scoreless innings and Kyle Seager homered to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies last night. Mike Zunino was 0-for-17 before getting two hits and driving in two runs. The Mariners have won 11 of their last 14.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Justin Turner drove in two runs and scored another pair, helping rally the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-6 win over the San Diego Padres last night that snapped a three-game skid. The Dodgers have won six of their last seven against the Padres, and improved to 8-3 against their NL West rival this season. They avoided their first four-game losing streak.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Malcolm Smith tracked the eyes of quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and leapt into the air, snagging the football with one hand for an interception before racing 60 yards in the opposite direction for a touchdown. Not a bad first full day back on the practice field for Seattle’s Super Bowl MVP. Smith has been sidelined throughout the entire offseason while recovering from ankle surgery this spring.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Having struggled at wide receiver his entire college career, Obum Gwacham is switching to defensive end for his senior year at Oregon State. Defensive line coach Joe Seumalo planted the idea of coming over to the defense last season, Gwacham said. A quick learner, Gwacham is making strides with the defense, in a group competing for the spot opposite DE Dylan Wynn.
