GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Members of a neighborhood watch group in southwestern Oregon held a burglary suspect at gunpoint until police arrived to take him to jail. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports 37-year-old Robert Wendover was booked into the Josephine County Jail on multiple parole violations. He was convicted of burglary earlier this year.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated a conviction against an Oregon man who allegedly abused a female relative more than a decade ago. A jury found Scott Jones of Lincoln County guilty of unlawful sexual penetration in 2003. A federal judge threw out the conviction after the girl and two other witnesses recanted their testimony years later. The court has ruled their revised accounts are not enough to prove that Jones is innocent.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A fire at a Springfield plywood mill last month spread debris and ash to a few dozen residential properties, including two at which asbestos has been confirmed. A vice president of Swanson Group says the mill property contained more asbestos than originally thought. A contractor has cleaned up debris at 16 residences

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Members of three Northern California Indian tribes rallied outside a federal water agency office in Sacramento to demand more water be released from reservoirs to prevent the spread of a parasite among salmon returning to the Klamath River to spawn. There was no indication the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation was changing its plans to hold off any water releases until significant numbers of salmon begin to die.
