PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a gang enforcement team will be making extra patrols in southeast Portland the next few days because of a gang-related homicide yesterday morning and an earlier shooting that wounded three men. Police say they don’t know if the shootings are connected. The woman is identified as 21-year-old Ervaeua Ronchelle Herring. Police say the shooting appears to be gang-related.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An expansion of Oregon’s services for people with developmental disabilities has families and caregivers cheering, but it’s also raising concerns about the price tag and availability of services. Under the federal health care law, many of the 9,000 Oregonians living at home with developmental disabilities are now eligible for a big increase in state funding to pay for services. That can mean tens of thousands of extra dollars for each person to use for things like in-home caregivers.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A police report shows that one of four Ethiopian athletes who went missing during an track meet in Eugene told an officer they all planned to seek asylum in the United States. A University of Oregon police report says one of them told an officer that he and three others on the Ethiopian track team planned to apply for asylum at a U.S. immigration office in Portland on July 28. It’s unknown whether the athletes have sought asylum.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) – A former Wisconsin police officer accused of killing an Oregon college student and another woman and hiding their remains in a pair of suitcases is due back in a courtroom today.
