SEATTLE (AP) – Jacob deGrom allowed five hits and a run in seven impressive innings, Lucas Duda hit a mammoth home run and the New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 3-1 last night. DeGrom (4-5) walked one and struck out seven to improve to 4-1 with a 1.59 ERA over his last six starts. Jeurys Familia worked an easy eighth and Jenrry Mejia picked up the save.

SEATTLE (AP) – Diana Taurasi scored 22 and Candice Dupree added 19 to help the Phoenix Mercury win their 13th straight game and clinch a playoff berth with an 89-71 victory over the Seattle Storm last night. Crystal Langhorne had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead Seattle (9-16), which dropped 2½ games behind Los Angeles for the fourth and final Western Conference playoff berth.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Trail Blazers forward Thomas Robinson has undergone surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. Robinson hurt his thumb last week during NBA Summer League play. He is expected to return in time for the Blazers’ fall training camp.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) – Oklahoma State University assistant track and field coach Diego Flaquer has been named the sprints coach for the Colombian national team at the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships. The event is scheduled through Sunday in Eugene, Oregon.
