PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – With no picks in this year’s NBA draft, the Portland Trail Blazers still made news in offering All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge a maximum contract extension. The offer was confirmed Thursday by a person close to the negotiations who could not comment publicly because the team had not formally announced it. The Blazers hope to lure him to stay with a five-year, $108 million extension.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles Clippers selected Washington guard C.J. Wilcox with the 28th overall pick in the NBA draft last night. Wilcox, 23, averaged 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists last season as a senior with the Huskies. The 6-foot-5, 201-pound shooting guard is second in scoring in school history with 1,880 points.
UNDATED (AP) – U.S. women’s goalkeeper Hope Solo has apologized to her fans via social media following her arrest for domestic violence last weekend. Solo pleaded not guilty plea to two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence Monday in a Kirkland, Washington, court and was released without bail. She is accused of assaulting her sister and 17-year-old nephew.
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) – Eight runners leaving Bellingham Bay on Friday morning plan to run to Mount Baker where they’ll hike and climb to the summit. Then they have to return. It’s a 108-mile course expected to take about 40 nonstop hours. The Bellingham Herald reports Daniel Probst of Cascade Mountain Runner organized the run with the goal of launching a new Mount Baker Ultra Marathon next year.
