KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Rookie Roenis Elias pitched neatly into the seventh inning, Mike Zunino homered and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Kansas City Royals 2-1 yesterday for a three-game sweep. Elias (7-5), a 25-year-old left-hander from Cuba, limited the Royals to one run and five singles over 6 2-3 innings. He struck out five, walked two and improved to 4-1 in June.

SEATTLE (AP) – Camille Little scored nine of her 22 points in overtime to lead the Seattle Storm in an 89-86 victory over the Washington Mystics yesterday night. Sue Bird added 21 points as the Storm (6-9) snapped a two-game losing streak. Bird hit a tying 3-pointer with 1:18 left in regulation. Rookie guard Bria Hartley scored a season-high 26 points for Washington (5-9), which lost for the fourth straight time. Hartley’s previous high was 20 on June 1 against Los Angeles.

SEATTLE (AP) – A lawyer for U.S. soccer star Hope Solo says she’s not guilty of any crime, and that she herself was assaulted and injured during the altercation that led to her arrest early Saturday. Police in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland said Solo, a longtime goalkeeper for the women’s national team, was arrested just before 1 a.m. at her sister’s house for investigation of domestic violence assault. They say she was intoxicated and upset, and that she had assaulted her sister and 17-year-old nephew.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) – New Montana men’s basketball coach Travis DeCuire has selected his assistant coaches and named former Washington State head coach Ken Bone as his associate head coach. DeCuire says as a first-time head coach it’s important for him to have an assistant with experience in big, pressure games. Bone was fired by WSU in March after the fifth year of his seven-year contract. School officials said he would still receive the $1.7 million he was owed for the remaining two years.
