Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Jacoby Ellsbury lined an RBI single on a 0-2 pitch to score Derek Jeter with the go ahead run in the eighth inning, and the New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 last night. Ellsbury’s hit came after Jeter’s ground-rule double that ended the night for Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma (4-3), who had not been threatened since the first inning.

DENVER (AP) – Andrelton Simmons hit his first career grand slam as part of a seven-run first inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 13-10 last night. The teams combined for 29 hits and neither starter made it out of the fifth inning. Rockies right-hander Juan Nicasio lasted just 3 2-3 innings.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) – Tanisha Wright scored 17 points to help the Seattle Storm beat short-handed Chicago, which was missing star Elena Delle Donne, 80-76 last night. Chicago (5-4) did get a strong effort from Epiphanny Prince, who was playing her second game of the season after sitting out the first seven games because of burnout. Camille Little added 13 points and Sue Bird had 12 for the Storm (4-6).

UNDATED (AP) – Arizona senior Lawi Lalang hopes to add to his already impressive list of accomplishments at this week’s NCAA track and field championships. He’s got seven NCAA titles to go with six Pac-12 championships heading into the meet that starts Wednesday at Oregon’s Hayward Field. He will once again battle Oregon freshman Edward Cheserek, this time in the 5,000.
