PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A U.S. Supreme Court justice is asking for more information before any ruling on an effort by the National Organization for Marriage to halt same-sex marriages in Oregon. The Oregonian reports that Justice Anthony Kennedy yesterday asked that briefs be filed by Monday from the parties in the two lawsuits that led to Judge Michael McShane’s May 19 ruling that allowed gays and lesbians to marry in Oregon.

REDMOND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Redmond say a report of a man lying in the grass and pointing a rifle at a school turned out to be a man with a pellet gun who told officers he was shooting at a type of marmot or ground squirrel. KTVZ-TV reports that Sgt. Hank Majetich says the gun resembled an assault rifle with a scope. A Redmond man was arrested for investigation of reckless endangering and second-degree disorderly conduct.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Police in Springfield are considering a lawsuit to close a house they’ve been called to 50 times in the past four years. Neighbors say it’s a meth house. Owner Trevor Uehlin (YOO’-lin) has been arrested 19 times in four years and has convictions for burglary and drug dealing. Police Chief Tim Doney says that if a judge determines a house to be a “chronic disorderly property,” it could be closed up to a year.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) – Fanendo Adi scored his first two MLS goals to help the Portland Timbers beat Chivas USA 2-0 last night. Portland improved to 3-3-7, winning its second straight game and third in its last five. Chivas dropped to 2-6-4.
