PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An environmental restoration company wants to turn an old plywood mill into a salmon habitat. The Oregonian reports the 25-year-old industrial site has been vacant for 13 years. Restoracap plans to restore the Linnton Plywood Mill site for salmon habitat and then sell environmental credits to companies that need to make up for inflicting environmental damage.
TOUTLE, Wash. (AP) – State highway officials say the highway to the Johnston Ridge Observatory at Mount St. Helens has reopened for the season. The Vancouver Columbian reports state Route 504, also known as the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway, reopened for Saturday’s “It’s A Blast” event at the observatory. The event typically kicks off the visitor season at Mount St. Helens.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Big donors are making their voices heard in Oregon’s Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Campaign finance records show three super PACs and a traditional political action committee have reported spending at least $956,000 supporting or opposing the two leading candidates, state Rep. Jason Conger and Portland physician Monica Wehby. Two outside groups funded by social conservatives are backing Conger, and two are backing Wehby.
RENO, Nev. (AP) – The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is soliciting bids for new, short-term holding facilities for wild horses removed from Western rangelands under its ongoing program to thin herds. Bids will be accepted until June 2 from those interested in operating the corrals in 17 Western and Midwestern states. The BLM places mustangs in the facilities until they’re adopted or shipped to long-term pastures in the Midwest.
