OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – Oakridge police say they’ve arrested a 15-year-old boy who is accused of threatening to shoot his Oakridge High School classmates. The Register-Guard reports that students contacted police Monday evening to report the threats, saying the boy had threatened to shoot other students on a specific date. Police arrested the teen early yesterday at his home.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A company that was planning a wave energy installation off the Oregon coast has said it will instead undertake the project in Australia. Ocean Power Technologies says it is suspending the Oregon project because it lacked money to comply with unexpected regulatory requirements. Ocean Power had planned to use the motion of waves about 3 miles off Reedsport to generate enough electricity for about 1,000 homes.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Native American group is calling on Nike to stop producing and selling products that feature the Cleveland Indians’ mascot Chief Wahoo. The logo depicts a grinning, red-faced cartoon with a feather headband. The Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry group is planning a protest at Nike’s Oregon headquarters in Beaverton this week and is running a social media campaign.
NEW YORK (AP) – Columbia Sportswear is buying yoga and climbing clothing maker PrAna Living for $190 million, saying it wants to cut its dependence on cold-weather shoes, clothing and gear. The Portland company said yesterday that prAna’s annual sales are on track to surpass $100 million in 2014. It says the deal will add to its net income in 2015.
