RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Earl Thomas is the latest member of the Seattle Seahawks to be rewarded. A person with knowledge of the deal says Thomas and the Seahawks have reached agreement on a $40 million, four-year contract extension. The two-time first-team All-Pro could have gone into the 2014 season with free agency on the horizon. Instead, Seattle made sure to lock up the most important cog on its defense.

SEATTLE (AP) – Robinson Cano takes the field tonight in the Bronx for the first time wearing something other than pinstripes. After signing his $240 million, 10-year contract with Seattle in the offseason, Cano will return to New York for the first time as a member of the Mariners when they open a three-game series against the Yankees.

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) – Officials with Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson announced yesterday that the Eagleglen Golf Course won’t open in 2014. The military operates Eagleglen and two courses at Moose Run. The decision to shed one was prompted by a 37 percent decrease in players in the last decade and losses of over $2 million in the last five years. Most of the players are civilians.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Fewer Oregonians are hunting and fishing, which means less revenue for the state to pay for wildlife management and conservation. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is taking a new look at how it pays for those programs, and plans to request a bigger share of general fund revenue and more frequent increases in license and tag fees.
