EUREKA, Calif. (AP) – Officials say a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck last night off the coast of Northern California. The U.S. Geological Survey says the temblor struck at 9:18 p.m. PDT four miles beneath the Pacific seabed and 50 miles west of Eureka. The USGS says more than 3,000 people reported feeling the temblor, some of them in Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Triple-A reports the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Oregon is $3.51. That’s up 9 cents in a week and 23 cents in a month. Some metro prices — Portland $3.49, Salem $3.51, Eugene-Springfield $3.55, and Medford-Ashland $3.55.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two years ago, the Oregon Supreme Court set the highest bar in the country for eyewitness testimony. On Thursday, that new scrutiny will get its first challenge. The court said that decades of evidence convinced them that eyewitness testimony is unreliable. After the decision, the court of appeals ordered a new trial for a Portland man whose murder conviction was based in part on eyewitness testimony.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter was named the Slats Gill Sportsperson of the Year at the Oregon Sports Awards. In his first year with the Major League Soccer club, Porter led the team to a 14-5-15 record, a dramatic 23-game turnaround from the previous season.
