Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Evan Payne scored 19 points as 10th-seeded Loyola Marymount edged past No. 7 seed Portland 67-64 yesterday and advanced to the quarterfinals in the West Coast Conference tournament. The game stayed within a two-point margin through the last 5 minutes with four lead changes and one tie.

SEATTLE (AP) – Jordan Adams scored a career-high 31 points, and UCLA wrapped up the No. 2 seed in next week’s Pac-12 Conference tournament with a 91-82 win over Washington yesterday. Adams scored 16 points in the first 12-plus minutes of the second half before having to sit with his legs appearing to cramp. When Adams returned, it was Seattle-area native Zach LaVine taking over, scoring 11 of his 14 points in the final five minutes for UCLA.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Frank Williams scored 16 points and Martez Harrison added 14 as the University of Missouri-Kansas City beat Seattle 82-73 yesterday. The win guarantees the Kangaroos at least a No. 4 seed in the WAC tournament. Seattle pulled to within three points with 22 seconds to play, but UMKC’s John Burke iced the win with a dunk.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Punishing conditions along the early part of Alaska’s nearly 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race have brought many mushers to their knees, knocking some out of the running altogether. As of yesterday morning, 12 mushers had dropped out and one was withdrawn, leaving 56 teams. Long stretches of bare ground made conditions treacherous hundreds of miles from the finish line in Nome on Alaska’s western coast.
