OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A Portland-area woman has been sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison after a jury convicted her of embezzling $225,000 from an auto business. The Oregonian reports Kristina Kaino-Smith worked for Rick Jones Motor Co. as a bookkeeper and office manager and also handled Jones’ personal finances. Jurors were told that Kaino-Smith forged Jones’ name on checks she wrote to herself.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say one man has been arrested and $90,000 worth of stolen construction equipment and tools has been recovered in southern Oregon. Police say stolen items were found when they got warrants and searched two properties near Rogue River earlier this month. Frank Morgan Wheeler has been jailed for investigation of first-degree theft and methamphetamine possession.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Some people in Oregon can now enroll in health insurance online through Oregon’s health insurance exchange. More than four months after it was supposed to launch, Cover Oregon yesterday rolled out its online enrollment system to insurance agents and community organizations. A spokesman says most people will be able to fill out an application and enroll in one sitting.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge will be out for a week because of a left groin strain. The Blazers say their three-time All-Star has been bothered by the injury since Portland’s victory over the Timberwolves earlier this month. The Blazers also said Tuesday that center Meyers Leonard sprained his left ankle in practice and will miss up to three weeks. Portland had already suffered a blow when backup center Joel Freeland went down with an MCL injury before the All-Star break.
