Oregon State Takes Basketball Civil War
Roberto Nelson scored 22 points and anchored a stellar defensive effort that carried Oregon State to an 80 – 72 victory over Oregon last night in Corvallis.
Eric Moreland added 15 points… 11 of those from the free-throw line… and had 13 rebounds for the Beavers who have now won two of their last three games and are 2-and-3 in the Pac 12.
Jason Calliste (ka-LEEST) had 17 points off the bench for the Ducks who have now lost four straight after winning their conference opener three weeks ago.
Turning to prep sports…
Mapleton’s Tucker Ford scored 23 points and Justin Schaaf (shoff) added 12 points and 18 rebounds, but the Sailors fell on the road Friday night 57 – 45 to the Siletz Valley Warriors. In the girls matchup that evening, Katie Dearman ended things on a high note for the Lady Sailors, sinking a three-pointer as time expired, but the Warriors came out on top 31 – 24.
The Reedsport Braves had two contests over the weekend; both at home. Friday night the boys fell to Myrtle Point 62-41 while the girls edged the Lady Bobcats 45-44. Saturday night Oakridge came calling… they downed the Reedsport Boys 51 – 42 while the Lady Braves came out on top 52 – 32.
