PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Developers eager to make a business out of the unmanned aerial vehicles known as drones are a step closer to that goal. On Monday, the federal government designated drone test sites in several states, including three test ranges in Oregon: in Pendleton, Tillamook and on the Warm Springs reservation.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police in Salem, Ore., say a man has been arrested in the case of a 23-year-old woman who was assaulted with a baseball bat when she entered a residence. The woman managed to escape by jumping out a window last Thursday night. Lt. Steve Birr said 25-year-old Landis Provancha was arrested yesterday and booked into jail for investigation of attempted murder and assault.

DALLAS, Ore. (AP) – The district attorney in Polk County, Ore., says two men have been arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 29-year-old man found dead in a wooded area. KATU-TV reports the district attorney’s office said yesterday that 44-year-old Jimmy Fears and 24-year-old Zachary Mersch have been charged with aggravated murder, murder, first-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit the crimes. Both are from Independence, Ore.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – A 73-year-old Southern Oregon trucker and his dog have survived a crash into ice-covered Upper Klamath Lake. The State Police said Carl Hansen of Medford was driving along the lake about six miles west of Klamath Falls yesterday morning when his semi-trailer truck went across the road and into the lake. Troopers said they hadn’t confirmed a cause for the accident.
