PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A British Columbia lawyer for 12 victims of the 2012 charter bus crash on Interstate 84 near Pendleton have filed a lawsuit seeking $700 million. The East Oregonian reports the group is seeking a jury trial on accusations that tour operators were negligent. The lawsuit also accused Oregon of failing to make an icy stretch of the interstate safe and failing to erect barriers to keep the bus from going over a cliff. The crash killed nine and injured 38.
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Six months after fire destroyed the Pacific Seafood processing plant in Warrenton, the company is eager to rebuild. Project engineer Michel Roberts told The Daily Astorian that as soon as the insurance company releases the site, debris will be removed and rebuilding will begin.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A group that wants to ban most commercial and sport trapping in Oregon says it will back off plans for a 2014 ballot initiative and work on an updated proposal for the 2016 election. Leaders of Bend-based TrapFree Oregon told the Mail Tribune that recent polling showed Oregonians are strongly against restrictions on private lands. So it will focus on curbing the fur trade on public lands.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have identified a man killed in a Christmas Eve domestic disturbance as 61-year-old Terry Lee Rolin. A police spokesman says no arrests have been made in the shooting that happened in southeast Portland.
