PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Forecasters say a cold front is moving through Oregon today with gusty winds, rain and snow in the mountains. Drier, but colder weather will persist through the week across the state. Forecasters say low temperatures this week in parts of southern and eastern Oregon will be in the single digits.
BAKERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) – There’s something rotten in Christmas tree country. And that has some farmers looking overseas for a solution. Phytophthora root rot, caused by a waterborne mold, is an issue with fir producers nationwide. One study estimated the potential loss to No. 1 Oregon’s nursery and Christmas tree industries at up to $304 million. Some farmers are trying Turkish fir as an alternative. Oregon farmers plant about 500,000 Turkish and Nordmann fir a year.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office say a 15-year-old boy with medical issues has been safe one day after he was reported missing. Authorities located Alex Chisholm yesterday after a security guard reported a juvenile hiding in the bushes at an elementary school in Aloha.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers blew most of a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter before holding on to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 114-108 last night for their 12th victory in 13 games. LaMarcus Aldridge had 27 points and nine rebounds while Damian Lillard had 26 points and nine assists. It was Portland’s first road victory over the Lakers in seven tries since April 11, 2010.
