KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) – Law enforcement officers say an elderly Kennewick, Wash., man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease has been found safe in north-central Oregon. The Tri-City Herald reports that Kennewick police had asked Oregon State Police for help Tuesday night in a search for the man after tracking his cellphone signal in Oregon. A trooper was checking along Highway 197 and found the man and his Jeep.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A Benton County officer seriously wounded in a gunfight with a car theft suspect in 2012 is returning to duty. Sheriff Scott Jackson says Sgt. David Peterson will be on the same night shift Monday that he was on when he and other officers responded to the theft. Jackson said Peterson has undergone two major surgeries and four surgical procedures.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A southern Oregon man who told police his assault rifle fired accidentally when he used it as a crutch to get up from a couch has been sentenced to more than six years in prison. A 5-year-old girl was killed. The Daily Courier reports Jon A. Meyer Jr. of Grants Pass was sentenced yesterday on second-degree manslaughter and other charges.
BEAVER CREEK, Colo. (AP) – Lindsey Vonn is banged up and unsure of her plans heading into the Sochi Games. In years past, that thought might send a shiver through the U.S. speed team. But the Americans are loaded with depth in downhill and super-G. Julia Mancuso, Stacey Cook, Leanne Smith and Laurenne Ross are the skiers the Americans could be counting on for medals.
