BEND, Ore. (AP) – PacifiCorp is looking to retire its hydropower plant at Mirror Pond dam in Bend, and transfer ownership to another entity. The utility said in a statement yesterday that it isn’t cost-effective to make extensive repairs to the 100-year-old dam. A leak in early October prompted a more thorough engineering inspection.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Anti-virus software entrepreneur John McAfee is facing a civil stalking complaint in Oregon. The 68-year-old arrived in Portland last winter after fleeing the Belize where authorities sought to question him in the killing of an American expatriate. The Portland complaint was filed by Connor Hyde, a property manager with the Riverstone Residential Group which would not provide details.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s troubled health insurance exchange has discovered two more instances in which personal information of applicants was sent to the wrong people. A Salem woman said last week that she received pages of the applications of two strangers, including names, birthdates and information about Social Security and income. Cover Oregon told the Statesman Journal that all three incidents are under investigation.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon inmate has been charged with aggravated murder in the nearly 2-year-old slaying of a fellow prisoner. Court records show 32-year-old Terry Lapich was indicted late last week. He had previously been identified as the suspect in death of Michael Hagen, who died at a Boise hospital after being found unconscious at the Snake River Correctional Institution.
