CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – State police say two men killed in a hit-and-run in Southern Oregon were fighting in the road when they were struck by a pickup truck. Authorities identified the victims yesterday as 21-year-old Jarred Quinn Houston and 41-year-old Robert Calvin, both of Cave Junction. Troopers say the 1980s Toyota pickup, described as beige or tan, never stopped.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber hasn’t said whether he’ll launch a re-election bid, but he’s been busy collecting cash for one. Kitzhaber’s campaign has reported contributions of nearly $232,000 so far this year, more than half of it in the last two months. Kitzhaber has repeatedly said he expects to make up his mind this fall about whether to run for a fourth term.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Fire & Rescue says a landscaper has died after being electrocuted while cutting a 20-foot-tall hedge. Authorities say the man died instantly yesterday when the equipment he was using touched a high-voltage power line. The man had been on a ladder using a pole with a saw attached to the end.

ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – Teachers and staff members with concealed weapons permits can once again carry guns on campuses in the St. Helens School District. A newly elected school board voted last week to repeal a ban on firearms that was enacted earlier this year. School board member Ray Biggs tells KPTV that the change was about upholding constitutional rights to carry weapons.
