Coast Radio’s Athlete of the Week

Siuslaw Cross Country standout Mitchell Butler is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  The senior harrier set a new course record at Tugman State Park and ran his fastest time ever on a 5-K course to claim the individual Far West League cross country championship with a time of 15:19.

Honorable mention goes to Butler’s teammate Mack Marbas who was one second behind the victor, in second place, helping to pace the Vikings to their sixth straight district title.

Volleyball Post Season

On the court this evening… the Viking volleyball team will host the Henley Hornets at six PM in the “play-in” round of the OSAA State Volleyball championships.  Ticket prices are $6 for adults; $4 for students with ID.  The winner will advance to a first-round game Saturday.

The Mapleton volleyball season came to an end Saturday at the Mountain West Tournament in Junction City.  The Sailors started with a three-set loss to McKenzie… then took Crow to five games before falling 3-2 in the elimination game.

The Reedsport Braves qualified for the 2A Volleyball tournament over the weekend with a three game win over Bonanza in Medford.  The Lady Braves will tune up for post season play this evening at home against Far West League champion Marshfield.
