SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — Police in Springfield have identified a woman found fatally stabbed in a rental home and say her 23-year-old son has been arrested in California. The Register-Guard reports that police say Sean Patrick Kelley has a history of mental illness. He was arrested at the same house on Oct. 7, accused of confronting his 59-year-old mother, Susan Jackson, while armed with a knife. After a neighbor reported finding the body, police on Tuesday immediately began looking for Kelley.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Marion County authorities say they’ve found a couple who went hunting but got stranded when a branch they drove over flipped up and broke their fuel line. The sheriff’s office says Robert and Bonnie Boatman, who are both 69, had extra clothes, food, water and blankets in their van. The son reported them missing Tuesday night after they called him from near Silverton, but searchers couldn’t find them.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Oregon-based Reser’s Fine Foods is recalling pre-packaged products that may be contaminated with Listeria. The items were made at a Topeka, Kan., plant. They vary widely and include such items as cole slaw, pimento spread and potato salad. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the items also include 22,800 pounds of products containing chicken, ham and beef. There have been no reports of illness.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The former head of the Bonneville Power Administration says he did not make the specific decisions that are the focus of a U.S. Department of Energy’s investigation into hiring violations at the agency. In a statement released yesterday, BPA’s former administrator, Steve Wright, apologized for the violations, some of which occurred during his tenure at Bonneville. Wright said BPA’s actions were for the most part “well intended and not malicious.”
