SEATTLE (AP) – Top Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Danny Hultzen has undergone surgery on his left shoulder to clean up his labrum and repair a partial tear of his rotator cuff. The Mariners announced Hultzen underwent the surgery yesterday. The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla. The team said there is no timetable on Hultzen’s recovery.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas is unlikely to play against Colorado this weekend after emerging from practice wearing a boot on his injured right ankle. Running backs coach Gary Campbell told reporters yesterday that the speedy junior’s return is “not going to happen” when the No. 2 Ducks visit Colorado on Saturday. He was hurt last Saturday.
UNDATED (AP) – The Oregon State Beavers have a break this week to heal up and address some issues after an uneven but interesting start to the season. The Beavers dropped their opener to lower-division Eastern Washington but have since reeled off four straight wins. And they’ve done it nearly exclusively on the arm of QB Sean Mannion and the hands of Brandin Cooks.
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Washington State football coach Mike Leach says quarterback Connor Halliday is back practicing with the team this week. Halliday was knocked out of last Saturday’s big loss to Stanford with an injury. Leach, who doesn’t discuss injuries to his team, says Halliday practiced with the team on Sunday, but provided no other details about his condition.
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Two Washington State University basketball players have been suspended for violations of team rules. Basketball coach Ken Bone announced the suspension of Danny Lawhorn last week and the suspension of Jordan Railey yesterday. Lawhorn is a junior guard while Railey is a junior center. Details on what team rules they violated weren’t available.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State forward Eric Moreland will miss 14 games this season and Devon Collier will miss one for violating team rules. Moreland and Collier were both suspended indefinitely by coach Craig Robinson in July. He announced the dates the suspensions would be lifted yesterday during the team’s annual media day.
