Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) – Steven Hauschka kicked a 45-yard field goal in overtime to give the Seattle Seahawks a 23-20 win over the Houston Texans yesterday and the first 4-0 start in franchise history. Houston failed to score on two possessions in overtime. The Seahawks got the win on their second drive in overtime after rallying from a 20-3 deficit. The Seahawks rallied to tie it at 20-20 on an interception return for a touchdown by Richard Sherman in the fourth quarter.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas is being straightforward about hurting his right ankle on the opening kickoff against California. While second-ranked Oregon’s coaches never talk about injuries, Thomas was frank about his situation even though he didn’t have an exact diagnosis. All he knew with certainty was that it hurt enough that he couldn’t return against the Golden Bears. As for next week’s game at Colorado, Thomas would only say, “we’ll see.” He was hurt Saturday.

SEATTLE (AP) – Sonny Gray threw five shutout innings in his final start before the playoffs, Oakland had a pair of four-run innings and the Athletics closed out the regular season yesterday with a 9-0 win over Seattle in Eric Wedge’s final game as the Mariners’ manager. The A’s now turn their attention to the AL Division Series against Detroit that will begin Friday in Oakland, while Seattle enters the offseason with another managerial search on the docket.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Maximiliano Urruti scored his first Major League Soccer goal to give the Portland Timbers a 1-0 rain-drenched victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy yesterday. Urruti was acquired by the Timbers this month from Toronto FC, which had signed him in August from Argentina’s top division Newell’s Old Boys. His goal was a deftly executed flick in the 52nd minute that fooled Los Angeles goalkeeper Jaime Penedo. The win solidified Portland’s hold on the MLS standings’ third spot.

SEATTLE (AP) – Tim Cahill got control of a loose ball in the penalty area and scored late in the 76th minute last night, lifting the New York Red Bulls into a 1-1 tie with the Seattle Sounders that put them back atop the MLS standings. The Eastern Conference-leading Red Bulls have 52 points, while the Sounders picked up their 51st point to climb back into a tie with Real Salt Lake for first place in the Western Conference. The goal was Cahill’s ninth of the year, tying him for team lead with Thierry Henry.
