SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Active and retired public employees say they shouldn’t have to give up pension benefits to help increase funding for school. Members of the Public Employees Retirement System told state lawmakers yesterday that it’s unfair to look to their pensions to resolve issues in the state budget. A joint committee of House and Senate members held its first public airing of the bills planned for a special session of the Legislature.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – An online threat made against Oregon State University yesterday required the presence of 10 state police troopers and a campus-wide notification. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports school officials determined the IP address of the threat’s source was from another part of the country. Steve Clark, vice president for university relations and marketing, says the school believes the threat has no basis, but says the school decided to “act prudently.”

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – One of two Boise women reported missing at Craters of the Moon National Monument in south-central Idaho has been found dead. Butte County public information officer Tracy Weaver says 63-year-old Jo Elliott-Blakeslee appeared to have died from exposure. They were reported missing Monday when Elliot-Blakeslee, a physician, didn’t show up for work at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario, Ore.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) – It’s the most abundant protein in the human body. And now a 20-foot-high sculpture meant to represent a collagen molecule has gone up on the Piscataway campus of Rutgers University. A ceremony was held yesterday to dedicate the 20-foot, 3,200-pound steel and glass sculpture. The monument is dedicated to the center’s founding director, Helen Berman. It’s the work of scientist-turned-sculptor Julian Voss-Andreae of Portland, Ore.
