AURORA, Ore. (AP) — A sailor from Oregon was one of two people killed in the crash of a Navy helicopter Sunday in the Red Sea. The Defense Department says 32-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Jonathon S. Gibson of Aurora, Ore., died when the Knighthawk copter went down. The Navy says the crash was not the result of hostile action.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) — Police say a 24-year-old Milwaukie man lured young teenage girls to party at his apartment where he got them drunk, handcuffed and sexually assaulted them. Detectives arrested Brandon Murdock James yesterday on charges that included kidnapping and sexual abuse. KATU reports he’s accused of abusing three 13-year-old girls on three separate occasions. He’s jailed on $500,000 bail.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — Royal Caribbean International plans to hire 200 people by the end of the year for its customer contact center in Springfield. The Register-Guard reports that will bring employment to about 800 workers. Pay ranges from about $10 to $14 an hour.

WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) — Thousands of Oregonians are expected to hit beaches and riversides on Saturday for the annual fall litter clean-up. It’s organized by the SOLVE nonprofit organization and supported by the Oregon Lottery as part of the International Coastal Cleanup. More than 100 cleanup and watershed restoration projects are planned across the state.
