PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is helping local authorities investigate a fire in Pendleton that killed five people three of them children. Pendleton police say the names and ages of the two adults and three kids killed have not been released. Two other adults were hospitalized in Portland after yesterday’s fire.
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police say there were five adults and four children in a van that overturned yesterday afternoon on an I-84 on-ramp in Gresham. The crash killed an 11-year-old Portland girl. Police say the other occupants were taken to hospitals with varying injuries.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – After more than a decade, the city of Grants Pass is getting out of the compost business. The Southern Oregon city has been producing a product called Jo-Gro from a blend of garden and wood waste, along with the treated sludge from the sewage treatment plant – what’s left behind that can’t be returned to the Rogue River. But the Grants Pass Daily Courier reports the city faces heavy expenses to keep the enterprise going.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Triple-A reports the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Oregon is $3.69, the same as a week ago and down 4 cents in a month. It’s 22 cents higher than the national average. Some metro prices — Portland $3.67, Salem $3.69, Eugene-Springfield $3.69, Medford-Ashland $3.70.
