PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Demonstrators gathered outside the Federal Building in Portland yesterday to protest the proposed U.S. attack on Syria. KGW reports similar demonstrations were held in Beaverton and Vancouver. The demonstrators included peace activists, people with relatives in Syria and at least one military veteran who said President Barack Obama waited too long.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Deschutes County sheriff’s officer says an 82-year-old hiker who was making what was described as an “unusually slow” descent from South Sister peak has been flown off the mountain. Deputy Jim Whitcomb says Robert Haynes of Bend was flown to a Bend hospital last night for a medical screening. He was not hospitalized.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Fire’s technical rescue team was called last night to rescue two people, two cats and a dog from a restricted area beneath the Burnside Bridge. KATU reports the people had climbed a fence, and one fell into the river and the other was stuck with the animals. No one was injured.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man has been shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Gresham. The Oregonian reports officers arrived about 11 last night at the Pine Square Apartments and investigators processed the scene through the night.
