FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – A Forest Grove police officer suffered a knife wound in a hand as he wrestled to control a suicidal man. Police say a friend of the man called officers yesterday morning to a motel. The officer was treated at a hospital. The suicidal man was flown to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who was sitting in a parked car in Salem. Officers responding to a report of gunfire early Saturday found 23-year-old Charlie Rivera of Woodburn in an apartment parking lot. He died that night in a Salem hospital.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Forest Grove Fire and Rescue says having a plan helped a Forest Grove family safely escape their burning home. A mother and four children were home last night when fire broke out in the garage into the attic of the house. Fire officials say the mother instructed her two older children to follow their fire escape plan to get out of the house and meet at a mailbox across the street. While they did that, the mother took two younger children outside.
