Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – The pilot of a small plane has been killed in a crash near the airport in Prineville. Police say the pilot died at the scene of the crash yesterday. A Prineville resident who was driving nearby tells KTVZ she noticed the tail spinning and then saw the plane nosedive into the ground.

WOODLAND, Wash. (AP) – The Cowlitz County, Wash., sheriff’s office says a Scappoose man drowned when his kayak overturned in the Columbia River near Woodland. The sheriff’s office says Richard Schlumpberger had been fishing yesterday afternoon and apparently became entangled in the anchor line. Divers found the body.

WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Clackamas County deputies say two motels in Wilsonville were robbed over the weekend, but the stickups don’t appear to be connected. The Oregonian reports that on Saturday a Super 8 motel was robbed by a white man armed with a handgun. On Friday, La Quinta Inn was held up an armed dark-skinned man.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Hot weather will likely cause a lighter yield of Eastern Oregon potatoes, and smaller spuds than usual. The East Oregonian reports that the Oregon Potato Commission says some growers are reporting a lighter crop. Officials say a majority of the 40,000 acres that were planted this year can be found around Hermiston and Boardman.
