PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A bar owner has been ordered to pay $400,000 to a group of cross-dresser he banned from his club last year. The Oregonian reports the Bureau of Labor and Industries civil rights division imposed the penalty against Chris Penner, owner of the Twilight Room Annex. Penner had told members of the Rose City T-Girls they could not return to his bar.

THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say they used spike strips to stop a 91-year-old driver who bumped a patrol car and raced off at speeds as high as 80 mph after troopers found the man traveling in a closed section of I-84. Police were investigating a freeway gun battle that left a motorist dead and a trooper wounded when they spotted the man driving in the closed area yesterday. Troopers say Marseill Gunnyon of Toppenish, Wash., was arrested for investigation of attempting to elude, reckless driving and misdemeanor hit and run.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The top federal prosecutor in Oregon says new U.S. Justice Department guidance on marijuana won’t require any changes in Oregon. U.S. Attorney Amanda Marshall said yesterday that her staff reviewed marijuana prosecutions over the last two years and said all of them would have gone forward under the new federal rules.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The governors of Oregon and Washington say they’ve reached an agreement with a Vancouver company to mitigate the impacts of a proposed Interstate 5 bridge across the Columbia River. John Kitzhaber of Oregon and Jay Inslee of Washington released no details of the agreement with Thompson Metal Fab. It’s one of three manufacturers upstream that would not be able to fit some of their products under the proposed bridge, which would be shorter than the existing one.
