PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a man who was pulled over on I-84 east of The Dalles yesterday afternoon shot and wounded a state trooper, who returned fire. The motorist drove off but was found nearby, slumped over his steering wheel. He died at the scene. Lt. Gregg Hastings described the 26-year-old trooper’s wound as “minor.” A section of I-84 was closed for several hours.

MAPLETON, Ore. (AP) – Lane County narcotics detectives have seized more than four pounds of methamphetamine from a property in the small town of Mapleton and arrested one man. The Register-Guard reports that Louis Brown was booked into jail for investigation of possession and delivery of meth worth $51,000 on the street.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials say they have lifted health advisories concerning contact with water at three Oregon beaches. The Oregon Health Authority said it lifted the advisories for Cannon, Tolovana and Short Sand beaches yesterday after testing showed that fecal bacteria levels have subsided. The advisories were issued Wednesday after water samples showed higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria in ocean waters.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — DJ Adams rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns as Portland State coasted to a 57-17 win over Eastern Oregon last night at Jeld-Wen Field. The Vikings cruised to a big lead by shutting out the Mountaineers 36-0 in the first half. Adams ran for two first half touchdowns and Kieran McDonagh threw for two more.
